The Blended Schools Network (BSN) offers a professional development path to provide instructors with the knowledge they need to become quality online teachers. This path is designed for teachers who:
- Rarely or never see their learners face-to-face;
- Provide facilitation and guidance to learners enrolled in pre-created online courses; and
- Provide live online sessions to bolster online course content.
To start this path, it is recommended that teachers have prior knowledge of online learning management systems (e.g. Blackboard). BSN also offers a Technical Just the Basics Path to prepare teachers for online teaching.
Online teaching modules can be taken individually or as a series. BSN recommends that teacher training begin approximately six months before teaching begins. Modules can be taken as self-paced online modules or delivered live online or face-to-face by a Blended Schools Network qualified trainer. All trainees are assigned a mentor to help them complete their training path. Most Blended Schools members can receive this training for free: they just need to cover the travel expenses of the trainer, should there be any.
